Jeremiah 43:13 (King James Version) - “He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that [is] in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.”
Jeremiah 43:13 (Revised Standard Version) – "He shall break the obelisks of Heliop'olis which is in the land of Egypt; and the temples of the gods of Egypt he shall burn with fire."
Jeremiah 43:13 (Good News Version) - “He will destroy the sacred stone monuments at Heliopolis in Egypt and will burn down the temples of the Egyptian Gods.”
Do you believe Jeremiah when he wrote that Bethshemesh was a Sacred City in Egypt?
As we all can see the KJV names the Egyptian Sacred City as 'Bethshemesh', whilst the RSV and GNV use the Greek alternative of 'Heliopolis'.
The Greek 'Heliopolis' means the City of the SUN, whilst 'Bethshemesh' means the House of the SUN. We also know that 'Iunu' or 'On' was the Sacred City near Cairo which was renamed Heliopolis. So what do you think, does disagree that Bethshemesh or Heliopolis were one and the same and in Egypt? This may seem a very simple and easy question to answer for the Bible Scholars themselves put Bethshemesh in Egypt.
